Unfortunately, the truth is you can’t. The professional Berklee Indian Ensemble unit is not a structure open to be joined. We often call on guest performers, however, when there is a musical need outside of our standard roster of players. We also love to collaborate with other artists and are always open to queries and requests for this.

There is a class version of the ensemble that is open through auditions to any enrolled Berklee students. Please note that this does require you to be an accepted and enrolled student at Berklee College of Music. Being a member of the class does not guarantee performance opportunities with the pro unit and/ or in Berklee India Exchange’s annual Icon Series.

Believe us, we would love to. Honestly speaking, though, it’s not up to us (or we would have released it a long time ago). The rights to the songs are owned by various companies and labels in India and we have not been granted permission to release these materials at this point in time. Unfortunately, mechanical licenses do not systematically exist in that system, yet.
If you would like to take up this cause and start a petition, we will gladly help you spread the word. ;D

While the above issue exists for most of our covers, we are currently in conversations with some companies and labels to start releasing specific songs strategically.

Post-producing a full live show takes a lot of work, as there is both audio and video to account for and due to the live aspect, there is generally a LOT more fixing and cleaning up to do to both media than your usual studio recording (and we can take months to get just a single studio recording to where we want it to be at times.)

Added to that, COVID-19 has restricted our access to some of the concert archive files, as not everything is accessible remotely and we are still waiting for the college to reopen fully, in order for us to be able to claim those materials.

Given this information, live shows are generally worked on incrementally, song by song in between all of our other projects, which is why we haven’t been able to release a full concert like the A.R. Rahman tribute concert yet.

Who knows?! We would love to collaborate with so many artists, both Indian and non-Indian! Some names that have come up (and even conversations started ;D) are Anoushka Shankar, Karsh Kale, Shalmali, Rukmini Vijayakumar, Akram Khan and Sting.

Yes! Haha, we love to travel and go to different places to perform! That being said, organizing a tour independently is A LOT. So, if you would like us to tour in your region, it would be SUPER helpful if you could do some of the scouting for us - venues we could perform at? Are there (Indian) communities there that would come and watch us? Are there schools that might host a concert and/or workshop?

We understand that you may not be able to gather all of this information, but it helps if our fans are even just thinking along those lines as they dream with us. And we are dreaming these dreams with you, we promise! <3
